Fibre FAQ’s

All your fibre questions answered

Do you have questions about the world-class, lightning-fast internet that fibre provides?
Here are the answers to the Frequently asked questions about fibre:

How long will it take to get connected?

This will depend on the turnaround for your installation and activation. Once the line has been installed in your premises it can take up to 5 days for the provider to activate your line. As soon as your Fibre line is active, and your ISP router is plugged in and connected, you will be live immediately.

Can I use my current DSL router?
Since Fibre works very differently to DSL, the answer is probably no. It all depends on the router and how your provider installs fibre.
How is fibre different from DSL?
DSL is dependent on Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and can be slow if you have a bad line or are far away from your local exchange, whereas Fibre transmits data with pulses of light over an optical cable.

How fast is fibre really?

The fibre access circuits feeding your house will be configured to deliver information at speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second, which is about 500-1000 times faster than your average ADSL line when it comes to download speed.
Can my existing landline number be ported to the fibre provider?
Yes, your number can be ported to any ISP that offers VoIP services.
What does uncapped mean?
Uncapped internet means that you can use as much as you need, without your data ever running out.
